NATIONWIDE PROTESTS IN DOZENS OF U.S. CITIES TO MARK ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF UKRAINE INVASION

Activists will picket congressional offices and hold other events in plea for diplomacy to “avert nuclear war”

On Friday, February 24, the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a coalition of grassroots activists across the United States will be holding demonstrations and other events in several dozen cities urging officials to “lead with diplomacy.” Many of the events will occur at district and in-state offices of U.S. representatives and senators.

A list of locations and events around the country can be found here.

The events are being coordinated by the Defuse Nuclear War coalition. Keynote themes are:

Diplomacy Is the Path to Peace

  • Stop the Killing
  • Avert Nuclear War

In a statement, the coalition said: “The Feb. 24 anniversary of the invasion should serve as an opportunity to amplify calls for genuine diplomacy to end this terrible war. The anniversary is on a Friday in a week that the House and Senate are not in session — so this is an extra good opportunity for constituents to bring public pressure on members of Congress while they are presumably in their home area.”
