A war with Iran would be a Disaster
Israel is moving toward a war with Iran, and the United States has done little to stop it. Israel and Iran have exchanged missile strikes in recent months, and Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer reportedly believes President Trump will either support an Israeli military strike against Iranian nuclear facilities or order a U.S. strike on those sites. U.S. involvement in a war with Iran could escalate to a global conflict.
- An Israel-Iran war or U.S.-Iran war would be disastrous for the people of Iran, who are already suffering the effects of sanctions. Iran’s military is capable of imposing serious casualties on its enemies; there would be no "Mission Accomplished" banners quickly following after a U.S. or Israeli invasion.
- Israel has nuclear weapons, but Iran does not. Yet, perhaps in part as a result of a U.S. unwillingness to acknowledge Israel’s nuclear weapons program, polling has shown that many Americans believe the exact opposite to be true.
- A “maximum pressure” approach to Iran policy from the U.S. could prompt the country to go nuclear in an effort to stave off attacks, which in turn could lead Saudi Arabia to make good on its public promises to develop a nuclear weapon should Iran develop one. A Middle East with three nuclear weapons states would make for an infinitely more dangerous world.

Decades of sanctions have inflicted severe suffering on the Iranian people while failing to weaken the regime. Military action would be catastrophic, potentially triggering a broader regional war, nuclear proliferation, and even a global conflict.
Instead of pushing for war, I urge you to champion diplomacy and prevent policies that risk putting us into further chaos.
As your constituent, I ask you to take a stand against military action and support initiatives like entering a nuclear deal with Iran to ensure a path to de-escalation and stability. Please let me know where you stand on this critical issue.
