Defuse Nuclear War is convening a coalition of groups working against war & militarism to strategize and coordinate to end the horrific war of choice on Iran by the U.S. and Israel.

Key Messages
The United States Congress has failed to exercise its constitutional authority to stop the Trump administration from continuing its attacks on Iran. The U.S. The Constitution is very clear: only Congress has the power to declare war. Yet the U.S./Israel war against Iran has proceeded without meaningful debate or Congressional authorization. The recent failure of Congress to pass a War Powers Resolution highlights an alarming abdication of legislative responsibility at a moment of profound consequence.
Americans have grown tired of endless wars that take lives, resources, and moral credibility. The catastrophic military attacks in Iran have already resulted in devastating human loss, infrastructure damage, and destruction of cultural sites and medical facilities. This unnecessary war has taken the lives of our service members. Escalation under the banner of regime change has been a failed theory led by the United States and its ally Israel for decades and has drawn us into another destabilizing war with no clear bath to peace.
As the conflict continues to widen, the risk of regional war expanding into a broader international confrontation has grown by the day. The stakes for the Middle East, the U.S. and for global stability are simply too high. The United States must end this war immediately and constitutional oversight must be restored before it spirals further out of control.

As your constituent, I strongly urge you to immediately take a public stand and do everything you can to stop the U.S.-led war that has been launched against Iran.
While war powers resolutions should periodically be re-attempted as this catastrophe rolls on (and — to the shame of the so-called leadership of both parties — should have been voted on well before this war began), there are other steps you can and should now take:
- Block efforts to give Trump an Iran War Slush Fund of $50 billion.
- Introduce legislation to close U.S. bases in Gulf region dictatorships.
- Cosponsor and promote the Block the Bombs Act and all other means of finally halting the shipment of weapons to Israel.
- Make a public statement — not about the need for good planning or proper authorization of the war — but against this war of choice, which is a clear violation of international law.
