feb 24 call for diplomacy

Friday, February 24, 2023
12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM

Tiger Park at Palmer Square, Princeton
(Across from Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau St.)

On very short notice, CFPA’s Advocacy Committee decided to hold a Vigil for a Diplomatic Surge to Prevent Endless & Nuclear War in Ukraine from 12 Noon to 1 PM on Friday, February 24 (the first anniversary of the War) at Tiger Park in the front of Palmer Square in Princeton (across from Nassau Presbyterian Church, located at 61 Nassau Street).

Please RSVP your attendance and the number expected in your party via email to jnew@peacecoalition.org so we can print an appropriate number of posters for attendees. The Vigil will start with silently holding those posters (or ones you make and bring) for about the first 40 minutes along Nassau Street.

At about 12:40, we plan to gather in Tiger Park adjacent to the street for a short Rally with speakers until 1:00 PM. The Rally portion is when we need the largest turnout, so please come for that time even if you can’t stay for the entire hour.

As part of our Diplomacy, Not War Campaign, CFPA has been advocating for a Diplomatic Surge for some time. But the Ukraine War has reached a stalemate and is in grave danger of becoming yet another endless war, or even a nuclear war, if there isn’t a ceasefire leading to permanently ending it. Click to read Rev. Moore’s op-ed A Diplomatic Surge is Needed to Prevent Endless War and Reduce the Nuclear Danger in Ukraine which he has just submitted.

The first anniversary of the War is an especially important time to visibly advocate for a Diplomatic Surge. New developments suggest both great danger–reliable reporting that Russia’s northern fleet is deploying nuclear weapons for the first time in 33 years; and increased hope–news that the UN General Assembly will vote on a Ukraine-supported Ceasefire resolution on February 23.

CFPA will be creating a follow-up action of emailing or calling your Congresspersons early next week. So whether or not you can attend this event, please be watching for that and take action promptly (usually just takes a minute to send the emails), so your elected representatives see our message urging them to speak out before the Ukraine War’s first anniversary!
